Opera Films is a Panamanian film production company specializing in auteur fiction features and documentary projects of cultural, academic and heritage-preservation interest.
Founded in 2021 and led by Omar Calvo — a Panamanian producer, director and screenwriter trained at the Escola Superior de Cinema i Audiovisuals de Catalunya (ESCAC) in Barcelona —, the company debuted with Memorias del Chagres, a documentary short selected at national and international festivals, including the San Diego Latino Film Festival.
Winner of the Panama Film Fund in 2021 and 2022 for the development and production of its first fiction feature, Cautiverio, which celebrated its world premiere at the 22nd edition of Fantaspoa (Porto Alegre, Brazil) in 2026. In co-production with SerTV, the national broadcaster, it produced Salmones Rosas, winner of Best Film at the Central American Film Festival Vienna, and is currently developing its next documentary project.
